strange bedfellows, so to speak

this sign, without a doubt is my favorite billboard in Lake Worth:

on Lake Worth Road, west of Military Trail

obviously, the combination of Planned Parenthood and a Pentecostal Church in a single building is somewhat perplexing. i can think of two possible explanations.

the first explanation is that there is some rogue Pentecostal sect running around south Florida, handing out condoms and accurate information the history of reproductive rights in America. members of this sect would probably also engage in other dubious activities, like wanting to use the Sixth Commandment to extend Furman v. Jackson and eliminate the death penalty entirely. somehow, though, i doubt this is the case, which leads me to my second possible explanation.

my next guess is that the current economic malaise has helped make for strange bedfellows and, like a divorced couple who continues to cohabitate because of financial concerns, Planned Parenthood and the Pentecostals have become the odd couple of Palm Beach County. i like to think of them goosing one another and playfully teasing about the incompatibility of their respective beliefs.

extending this line of reasoning, notice the "For Lease" at the bottom of the sign and imagine what third tenant might join them. my personal choice would be the Nation of Islam who, besides obvious qualms with the Pentecostals, also (presumably) oppose reproductive choice. i see a sequel to Three's Company in the making, and only one question remains:

who gets to be Jack Tripper?
